Hi Guys, I am trying to find a solution to transfer Digital 8 tape content onto my Windows 7 (64-bit) powered PC. I have lost the software CD that came with the camera which had the Video Capture software. I have tried connecting using the supplied i-link to USB cable and also using the firewire cable using the Firwire to USB adapter (as I don't have a Firewire port on the PC), but Windows 7 is not sensing the presense of the Camcorder at all no matter what I do. Any ideas on how can get this working with my PC? The Windows 7 operating system no longer supports the USB connection of the DCR-TRV265E, so your computer will not detect the connection of the camera using a USB cable.

The best way to transfer footage from the camcorder to your computer is to use an A/V capture card device. This device connects to your computer's USB port and your camcorder's A/V connecting cable. A video capture software, usually supplied, captures the footage via this connection.
You can do a quick internet search for more information about these devices. If my post answers your question, please mark it as 'Accept as Solution'. Hi Francis, Thanks for your response.
The computer did detect the camera when I enabled the USB streaming on the camera itself, however it said that the device is uknown and Windows 7 couldn't find the driver to complete the 'new hardware' procedure. If I do follow the RCA type of conection though, I wouldn't think the video transfer will be digital wouldn't it? If am using the RCA cable that means the content of the tapes will be traferred in the analogue format to the PC whic in turn means a great loss in quality! I would like to retain the quality of the recorddings, so I can transfer them to DVD discs. Is is possible to achieve that with an XP based computer or a Macbook? Thank you for the clarification. It is correct that the camera will be recognized, it is just that the drivers necessary for proper connection are no longer available.
If you will be using a Windows XP computer, you can go ahead and connect the camera via USB and capture the footage using video capture software, such as Windows Movie Maker. Please note that you have to enable the USB streaming feature of the camcorder prior to connection, and this can be done by pressing MENU, scrolling down to SETUP MENU, selecting USB STREAM and then choosing ON.
If you will be using a Mac, you can use a 6-pin Firewire connection in connecting the camcorder and use a video capture software in transferring the footage over. If your Mac uses a 9-pin Firewire connection or if it does not have a Firewire connection at all, you can use the A/V capture card device that I have described in my previous post. There is no significant loss of quality when you transfer footage over to your computer using any of the import methods I have described above. You can always opt to have those tapes transferred digitally to a DVD by a media service company.
You can search online for options available in your area. If my post answers your question, please mark it as 'Accept as Solution'.

Dear Sony camera user, Yes the Sony camera needs a driver in Windows PC's and no drivers are yet available for Win Vista or Win 7 PC user's. However if your camera has, and I am sure it has a Firewire cable (Plug marked with windmill marker) then you do not need a driver, just the cable to fit your camera to the Firewire port (Marked with windmill) on your PC. Your cable will be available from Sony, and Maplin Electrical, PC World and good camera shops at around £14.
Good luck, from David Jun 03, 2010.
